Kindred Bites: A Guide to Your Incense Ritual

Kindred Bites: A Guide to Your Incense Ritual

If incense is new to you, start here.

Unlike a candle or essential oil burner, incense brings another element into the experience: the small ritual of lighting it, watching the smoke rise and allowing the scent to slowly move through your space.

Here’s how to enjoy your Incense Ritual.

How to burn your incense

1. Find a spot for your ritual

Place your ceramic incense holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, paper, drafts and anything flammable.

We recommend using incense in a well-ventilated space.

2. Place your incense stick

Insert the incense stick securely into the holder.

Make sure the holder is positioned to catch the falling ash.

3. Light the tip

Light the end of your incense stick and allow the flame to burn briefly.

Gently blow out the flame. The tip should continue to glow and release a soft trail of smoke.

4. Let it unfold

Allow the fragrance to gradually move through your space.

You don’t have to wait for a particular occasion. Light one while getting ready in the morning, before settling into work, while reading, or as part of your evening wind-down.

Choosing your scent

  • Quiet Awakening — Lychee, Geranium, Neroli & White Tea

Fresh, bright and gently uplifting — a scent we love for mornings and moments when you want the space to feel refreshed.

  • Soft Landing Tonka Bean, Poppy, Lavender & Sandalwood

Floral, warm and grounding — made for slower afternoons, evenings and moments of rest.

Do I need to burn the whole stick?

Not at all.

If the scent feels like enough for your space, you can extinguish the incense before the entire stick has finished burning.

Gently press the burning tip into a heat-resistant surface or suitable bed of sand until it is completely extinguished. Make sure there is no remaining ember before leaving it.

A note on ventilation

Incense produces smoke as it burns, so we recommend enjoying it in a well-ventilated room.

You can open a window or door slightly to allow air to circulate while still enjoying the fragrance.

As with candles and other home fragrance rituals, use it intentionally and in a way that feels comfortable for your space.

A few things to keep in mind

Never leave burning incense unattended.

Keep it away from children, pets, drafts and flammable objects.

Always place your incense holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface and ensure the stick is completely extinguished after use.

Make it a ritual

Incense doesn’t need to be reserved for meditation or a perfectly quiet home.

Light it while you make your morning matcha. Before you open your laptop. After tidying the house. While stretching. Or when the day is done and you want to signal that it’s time to slow down.

Sometimes the ritual is simply the transition.

For the stillness that finds you.
