It’s often the simplest objects that remind me to pause. The familiar steps of preparing my morning matcha, the steady rhythm of the whisk, a few drops of oil falling into the burner, the quiet glow of a flame softening the room. Small gestures, yet each shifts the way I move — slowing my pace, drawing my attention inward, and turning the ordinary into something intentional.
Objects as Extensions of Ritual
I’ve come to believe that the objects we live with shape more than our spaces — they shape our moods, our rhythms, and the way we care for ourselves. They do more than serve a function; they influence how we move, how we feel, and how present we allow ourselves to be. The earthy glaze of a chawan invites slow, sweeping whisk movements. A well-balanced mug encourages us to linger a little longer over coffee. Even the scent chosen for a room can soften its atmosphere and shift how we experience it. In this way, design becomes an extension of ritual — gently guiding us toward presence, care, and pause.
Designing with Intention at Forme
When I began creating for Forme, my intention was for each piece to hold more than beauty — I wanted it to invite a slower, more mindful way of living. The wide curve of our chawan was shaped to make whisking effortless, with a glossy inner glaze that keeps the surface smooth, easy to clean, and gentle on the whisk. The oil burner, with its earthy glaze and soft lines, was designed to bring a calming presence into a space, grounding you through both light and scent. Even our essential oil blends were crafted with this in mind — to accompany you through the day, steadying you with each breath and drawing you back to the present.
Every texture, weight, and curve is intentional — designed not just for function, but to become part of a ritual. Quiet companions that remind you to pause, breathe, and return to yourself.
The Connection Between Object & Self
The objects we surround ourselves with can quietly call us back to wellness. A bowl cradled in both hands can steady the breath. A flame flickering in the evening can soften the edges of a long day. A grounding scent can anchor us in the present moment. With intention, even the simplest objects become more than functional — they become rituals in themselves. Small, steady reminders to care for both body and mind.
When we begin to see our spaces and the objects within them in this way, self-care no longer feels like something we must chase. Instead, it weaves itself seamlessly into the rhythm of everyday life.
Closing Reflections
What I’ve come to realize is that the objects we choose shape far more than our spaces — they shape how we care for ourselves. A thoughtfully designed piece can be more than useful; it can become a gentle reminder to slow down, to savor, to treat wellness not as an afterthought but as a daily rhythm.
Through Forme, my hope is that each piece becomes more than something you use — but something that supports you, grounds you, and reminds you that creating rituals is a way of caring for both body and mind.
With stillness & warmth,
Calista
